About Us

The League of Women Voters of the Northwoods (LWVNOW) is a nonpartisan, grassroots organization dedicated to empowering voters and defending democracy. The league's advocacy and education encourages informed, active participation in government, fosters understanding of key public policy issues and shapes public policy.

LWVNOW serves the six northern Wisconsin counties of Florence, Forest, Langlade, Lincoln, Oneida, and Vilas.

Nonpartisanship Policy:

LWV does not support or oppose any political party or any candidate. As an organization dedicated to both voter education and advocacy, the League takes strong stances on policy issues relating to voting rights, civil rights, and other issues of importance to members and the public, based on study, discussion, and consensus.

Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Policy:

LWV is fully committed to diversity, equity, and inclusion in principle and in practice. Diversity, equity, and inclusion are central to the organization’s current and future success in engaging all individuals, households, communities, and policymakers in creating a more perfect democracy.

Land Acknowledgement:

We acknowledge that we are standing on the ancestral lands of the Lake Superior Chippewa Indians, who have been stewards of this land for centuries and who respect the interconnected relationships among everything on this land. We acknowledge the many legacies of violence, boarding schools, displacement, migration, and settlement that bring us together today. We pay respect to their elders, past, present and future.
