Kate Ullman

Executive Director of the Legislative Semester, CoFounder of the Wisconsin Civic Learning Coalition

Kate is a lifelong educator who believes that civic education is essential for a thriving democracy. She is the Executive Director of the Legislative Semester, a nonprofit organization she founded in 2022 to empower students with the skills for civil dialogue, depolarization, and civic engagement by simulating authentic democratic processes in the classroom. In addition, Kate is the co-founder of the WI Civic Learning Coalition, a network that connects individuals and organizations committed to strengthening nonpartisan civic learning in Wisconsin Schools.

Niki Johnson

Artist

Niki has spent her adult life living across the United States in many different locations and is now local to Milwaukee. She runs a studio full-time, exhibiting her art and curating local and national exhibitions. Her artwork is in several private and public collections including the collection of Sara M. and Michelle Vance Waddell, the collection of Ken and Melinda Krei, Planned Parenthood of Wisconsin, Madison Central Public Library, UW-Health’s American Center Hospital and the Milwaukee Art Museum.

Victoria is a former music educator and international performer. She has been a League member for 4 years and is the catalyst and mentor behind LWVOzWa Youth Vote Group

Editorial Cartoonist, Wisconsin State Journal

Phil began drawing cartoons for the State Journal as an intern in 2004 and joined their staff in 2013. In addition to his work at the State Journal, Hands creates cartooons and illustrations distributed across 77 daily newspapers in the Lee Enterprises newspaper group. Phil has won several state and national awards for his work and was the 2012 recipient of the Society of Professional Journalists Sigma Delta Chi award for editorial cartooning. Born in Syracuse, NY, Phil grew up in the Detroit area before moving to Wisconsin in 2005. He now lives in Madison with his wife and two children.

Pyper is a LWV Oz/Wa Youth Vote Group Alumni from Grafton, Wisconsin. She's currently a freshman at Simmons University in Boston where she studies Information Technology and Library Science. Pyper joined the LWV youth group after participating in a Civics Games Invitational. During her time in the group, Pyper helped facilitate the Mother Earth is Calling Panel, and helped coordinate a voter registration drive at Grafton High School last spring.

Member, LWV Oz/Wa Youth Vote Group

Brogan is an alumni of the Ozaukee and Washington County LWV Youth Vote Group. He graduated from Grafton High School in 2024 and is currently majoring in both sociology and journalism at Boston University, with a minor in political science. Joining the league after a West Bend invitational for the civics games, he has helped coordinate the Mother Earth is Calling environmental panel, spoke on the Cedarburg Public Library’s Jack Henke Show, as well as organized a voter registration drive at Grafton High School.

Ellison Schrauth is member of the Ozaukee/Washington County League of Women Voters Youth Vote Group and has been for around 2 years. She is dedicated to increasing  awareness and accessibility of voting rights. She is also eager to see how she can further contribute to this organization.

Wagner

William T. Evjue Distinguished Chair for the WI Idea at UW-Madison

Wagner studies how the information people encounter in their media ecology affects what they believe, what they want from their government and how they participate politically. He's an expert in survey research methods and randomized control trial interventions to combat misinformation, improve public knowledge, civic trust, and political participation. Wagner has published many books, peer-reviewed articles and public-facing pieces and has won multiple research, teaching, and community-engagement awards, Wagner regularly facilitates workshops for journalists, legislative staff, election administrators, and public health officials.
